What is Cambridge Movers?

The Cambridge English: Movers (YLE Movers) exam is the second level of the Cambridge English Young Learners (YLE) suite, designed for children aged 3 to 12. It builds upon the skills assessed in the Starters exam and aims to evaluate the development of young learners in listening, reading and writing, and speaking.

Here's what learners need to know for the Cambridge Movers exam:

  1. Continuation from Starters:

  • Movers is the next level after Starters, and it builds on the foundational language skills developed in the previous exam.

  1. Listening Section:

  • The listening section involves listening to spoken English and responding to questions. The audio materials include conversations, instructions, and stories appropriate for young learners.

  1. Reading and Writing Section:

  • In this section, learners will read short texts and answer questions. Additionally, there may be more complex writing tasks, such as completing a story or filling in information on a form.

  1. Speaking Section:

  • The speaking section includes a one-on-one interview with an examiner. Children will be asked to discuss familiar topics and express themselves in more detail compared to the Starters exam.

  1. Vocabulary and Grammar Development:

  • Movers assesses a broader range of vocabulary and more complex grammar structures. Learners should be familiar with a variety of everyday English words and expressions.

  1. Communication Skills Enhancement:

  • The exam encourages the development of effective communication skills. Children should be able to express ideas, preferences, and experiences in a more detailed manner.

  1. Sentence Structure and Writing Skills:

  • Movers assesses the ability to form more complex sentences and use appropriate grammar. Writing tasks may include completing sentences, short messages, or a simple story.

  1. Fun Learning Approaches:

  • Learning English should continue to be enjoyable and engaging. Interactive activities, games, and creative exercises can enhance language skills while making the learning process enjoyable.

  1. Practice and Familiarisation:

  • Regular practice with sample papers and understanding the exam format is essential. This helps learners become comfortable with the structure of the exam and improves their time management skills.

  1. Listening and Comprehension Skills:

  • Building on listening skills is crucial for success. Activities that involve listening to longer narratives, following instructions, and understanding details will benefit learners.

  1. Encouraging Independence:

  • Movers encourages learners to become more independent in their language use. Encouraging them to express thoughts and opinions in English outside the classroom setting can be beneficial.

By focusing on these aspects, young learners can prepare effectively for the Cambridge Movers exam. The emphasis on increased vocabulary, grammar complexity, and enhanced communication skills positions them for further success in their language learning journey.
